Dr. Al-Megren: Our Goal is to Involve the Creating of e-learning in Higher Education Institutions



     The First International Conference on e-learning and Distance Learning has been launched in AlFaisaliah Hotel and the Headquarter of the National Center for e-learning and Distance Learning in Riyadh under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Several workshops have been presented including: instructional design, Strategies for overcoming internal resistance to innovation, e-Learning Challenges and Planning, Authentic Learning Tasks for E-Learning and Effective Application of Internal Quality Assurance Procedures to e Learning which are presented by international experts.

    The General Director of the National Center for e-learning and Distance Learning Dr. Abdullah Al-Megren clarified that this event will be held for one week starting with more than 22 training workshops presented by English for male and female participated by more than 650 participants.

    Al-Megren  added that this conference is the first of its kind in the region. It is held during a crucial stage of increasing prevalence of the technology role in our daily live, that makes using the technology in the developmental, educational purposes is inevitable. It also aims to involve the creating of e-learning in higher education institutions and to identify the modern trends in the basics of training and its applications in e-learning. Al-Megren has cleared that the mission of the conference is to invest the creating of new technology which affects the development of content and means of education in addition to explore new experiences and raise the level of community awareness.

He added that the scientific program will be launched next Tuesday for two days.     He clarified that more than 300 researches have been received and 40 researches have been selected in addition to select three speakers for every day of the scientific program.   

    Al-Megren added that the conference will have positive results on e-learning. Also, he said that the second conference will be launched with an international exhibition organized by the Ministry of Higher Education under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

It is long overdue for KSA in particular and the region in general to tap into the potential of distance education and e-learning. I wish I had known about the conf earlier and make plans to attend.
